Scallions are low in calories, rich in fiber and contain a range of essential vitamins and minerals. One hundred grams of scallions contains approximately 31 calories, 2.6 grams of protein, 0.19 grams of fat and 7.3 grams of carbohydrates. They are also rich in dietary fiber containing about 2.6 grams per hundred grams.
Scallions are an excellent source of vitamin K with about 172 micrograms per hundred grams and also contain a range of other essential vitamins such as vitamin A, vitamin C and folate.
They are also a good source of minerals, including potassium at approximately 168 milligrams per hundred grams, manganese and copper.
In terms of phytochemicals, they contain various compounds such as sulfur compounds that have been reported to have different health benefits, such as antioxidant properties and anti-inflammatory properties.
